Material Overview

Crema Marfil marble is recognised for its warm cream base, light beige movement and fine brown veining. It is commonly selected where an interior requires a calm, luxurious and durable natural stone finish without the strong contrast normally associated with darker marbles.

The stone is suitable for high-end residential interiors, hotel lobbies, reception areas, feature walls, staircases, bathroom wall linings and vanity tops, provided that the correct finish, substrate preparation, adhesive system, jointing method and sealing regime are specified.

As with all natural marble, variation in tone, veining and fossil-like markings is part of the material character. Control samples and approved mock-ups should be used before bulk procurement and installation.

Typical Colour

Warm cream to light beige, usually with fine brown veins, cloudy natural movement and subtle fossil-like texture.

Main Uses

Interior flooring, wall cladding, feature walls, staircases, bathrooms, vanity tops, counters, hotel lobbies and residential interiors.

Finishes

Polished, honed, tumbled, brushed, leathered and antiqued finishes may be selected depending on location, slip resistance and design intent.

Specification Considerations

Advantages
Crema Marfil marble provides a timeless warm appearance, natural elegance and a high-end interior character. When properly selected, installed and maintained, it provides good durability for residential and hospitality interiors and can increase the perceived value of the space.
Limitations
The stone is porous compared with many engineered finishes and can stain if not sealed properly. It is sensitive to acids, harsh cleaners, scratching and etching, especially on polished surfaces. It is generally not recommended for exposed exterior areas or permanently wet areas unless a project-specific technical assessment confirms suitability.
Selection and Approval
Specify quarry source, grade, slab selection, finish, thickness, tolerance, edge treatment, vein direction and acceptable range of colour variation. Large projects should include range samples and a mock-up panel to control final appearance.

Interior Flooring System

A typical interior floor build-up includes the polished marble slab, a compatible stone adhesive or mortar bed, a level screed, waterproofing where required by the room function, and a clean concrete substrate.

  • Substrate must be clean, dry, sound and structurally stable.
  • Use a high-performance flexible stone adhesive suitable for natural stone.
  • Provide proper movement joints in accordance with the floor layout and project requirements.
  • Back-buttering large format tiles is recommended to improve bedding contact.
  • Use compatible grout and sealant suitable for marble installations.
  • Allow adequate curing time before grouting and before full use.

Installation and Maintenance

Installation Notes

Crema Marfil marble should be installed over a properly prepared base. A white cement-based or epoxy grout suitable for natural stone is preferred where colour staining needs to be controlled. The stone should be sealed after installation and before use, particularly in areas exposed to liquids, oils or cleaning chemicals.

Maintenance Notes

Seal the surface periodically according to use and exposure. Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner and a soft cloth or mop. Avoid acidic, abrasive or ammonia-based cleaners. Wipe spills immediately, especially acidic liquids, and use felt pads under furniture to reduce scratching.
